Thereby, they become part of United States. On April fourth of eighteen hundred and fifteen, Los Angeles was incorporated as municipality which was five months before California achieved statehood.
Los Angeles is nicknamed “City of Angels”. It is now a world center of business, international trade, entertainment, culture, media, fashion, science, sports, technology, and education. The geographical terrain of Los Angeles is both flat and hilly. Situated at one thousand five hundred forty seven meters high, Mount Lukens is the highest point in city. Other hilly parts of Los Angeles include Mount Washington, Boyle Heights, Crenshaw district which is around Baldwin hills and San Pedro district. Los Angeles River which begins in Canoga Park district of the city flows through city center falls into Pacific Ocean. A smaller river, Ballona Creek flows into Santa Monica Bay. Partly due to the diversity in habitats including beaches, wetlands and mountains Los Angeles area is rich in native plant species. Many of these species such as Los Angeles sunflower have become endangered.
